This gemstone is specifically generated in eruptive rocks or in primeval lava zones and are often found in the form of rounded nodules or geodes. When split or sliced,these show their banding to good, sometimes startling effect. In some geodes thereis a central cavity, in other the center is hollow. The Native Americans of the western American states referred to these Agate nodules as "thunder eggs".
